The Board of Directors of the Club 420 Association is proud to announce the 2019 Triple Crown series. After five successful years of record participation, the series has been expanded to be more inclusive with more qualifying regattas added throughout the country to give members a chance of competing for the coveted Triple Crown. Competitors will earn points in the series based on their placement in each qualifying regatta. Only the top 3 regatta scores for each boat will count toward the Triple Crown standings. For the 2019 Series we are working with ClubSpot to automate entries into the Triple Crown. Registration details will be released soon but the qualifying regattas and rules are detailed below. We can’t wait ot see everyone on the water this summer.
2019 Qualifying Regattas:
Awards: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place boats in the Series as determined by lowest total points
Rules
1. Organizing Authority – the Organizing Authority of the Triple Crown series is the Club 420 Association, Inc.
2. Eligibility - Each entrant must be a current member of the Club 420 Association; this includes both skipper and crew. Each skipper/crew combination must stay the same through each event of the series to have that event count towards their total score.
3. Ties - In the event of a tie, the results of the 2019 North Americans will serve as the tiebreaker. If one or both tied contestants does not sail the US North American Championships, the finish of the last regatta both contestants sailed will break the tie.
4. Scoring - Points earned from placement at each of the qualifying regattas will determine the Triple Crown. Only the top three (3) regatta scores will count (all other regattas will be dropped). The scoring system is a low point scoring system using the boat’s place multiplied by the factor in Paragraph 8 as the score. If a team, skipper and/or crew do not sail in a regatta, the score is a Last place plus ten (10) places for the contestant for that regatta.
5. In the event of no regatta – Then no scores will be counted for that regatta.
6. Missing an event - If a team, skipper and/or crew do not sail in a regatta, the score is a Last place plus ten (10) places for the contestant for that regatta.
7. Awards - The winners for Triple Crown awards will be determined by the total of the points allocated. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. The award ceremony will be at the conclusion of the 2019 Club 420 Buzzards Bay Championship.
8. Points - Point allocation per event • All other qualifying regattas will be 2.5x the place of the regatta • Nationals (US and Canadian) - 2x the place at the regattas • North Americans- 1x the place at the regatta
